The Real Truth About Super Bowl Betting Lines
Super Bowl betting lines- we hear all about them every week from TV, radio, Internet, and bookies- but what do we really know about Super Bowl betting lines, point spreads, or how they are determined in Las Vegas and from the online sportsbooks? Are they all a scam where the house always wins or are is there some truth when it comes to underdogs, favorites, and NFL point spreads? The Ministry of Truth sat down with Rob Shreck, a top sports gambler from Vegas and picked his brain about NFL picks, sports gambling, and Super Bowl betting lines in general. Ministry of Truth News (MOT): Hi Rob, how are you doing today? Rob Shreck: Heh heh! Well, this week proved to be one of those “so-so” weeks because everyone felt certain players would have do great by Sunday’s end. Donovan McNabb and Matt Hasselbeck would be at the top of the points list, right? Boy, was I wrong. Ha ha ha! But you win some and you lose some. I did adjust the Super Bowl betting lines after this Sunday, though. MOT: How are Super Bowl betting lines related to all of this? RS: I hate making NFL picks sometimes. Just when you think you have it all figured out, a no-brainer pick lets the air out of your tires. Ask all the guys who lost in Week 3 & 4 because Drew Brees failed to throw a TD, and you’ll know why I changed my Super Bowl betting lines. MOT: Well, I can’t say I have any idea what you are talking about, sir! How does what happens one week effect the Super Bowl betting lines? RS: Look the bottom line is that Super Bowl betting lines change DAILY depending on all sorts of new information such as injuries, what happened last week, and roster moves. Heck, I’ve seen Super Bowl betting lines change by the MINUTE. {Chuckle} Back in 1977 Super Bowl betting lines changed by the SECOND. MOT: Okay can we discuss the current Super Bowl betting lines? Which two teams are the favorites to even be in the Super Bowl betting lines? What are the updated Super Bowl betting lines after last Sunday. RS: Okay, kid, lissen up- you can take the following information to the bank: the 2010- hold on, one sec, I got a phone call. “Hello? Who? Yeah, this is Rob Shreck. Speak to my attorney. No, no, no…speak to my attorney, Foggy Nelson. Yeah..I can’t…I can’t…Foggy Nelson..yep…okay..thaaaanks..bye” MOT:.. RS: Okay, I gotta go now. [Gets up and leaves.] MOT: Well, Rob Shrek may not have given us the information we wanted about Super Bowl betting lines.
